Okay, so recently I haven’t experienced any harassment (what a change) but one thing that I have noticed is what is done to encourage harassment. This one thing really shocked me and I am disgusted that these items can be sold to the public.
Men’s T shirts.
I was on a shopping trip with my female friend and she was looking for something for her boyfriend’s birthday. We took a look in a men’s clothes shop. While we were trawling through the T shirts, I spotted a few which really caught my eye. I stared in disbelief as I read on one T shirt ‘I love SLAGS (because they are no angels) another one – “Nice legs. What time do they open?” With a picture of a female silhouette.
I was stunned when I saw these. How can they sell these things? And these tops were not just for men, but were catered for teenagers as well! What kind of example are these messages sending out? That it’s okay to be crude to women? That women are simply sexual objects to leer at? That all women are ‘slags’? Is it no wonder men think it’s acceptable to harass women when they can go out with it on their T shirts?
I just couldn’t believe what I saw. Those T shirts should not be sold. They give a bad influence and it wouldn’t say very much about the person’s character if they chose to wear it!
