I’ve dealt with sexual harassment since the beginning of high school. I am in my last semester of college and recently, it has been more frequent and worse.
At my school, I am constantly harassed when I go out by cat calls and demeaning comments from my male classmates. I have had classmates of mine contact me via facebook to hook up and have sex. When I am out with my friends, men have grabbed my ass.
A couple of weekends ago I went to ISU to visit my friend’s sister. When we went out I was disrespected by three different men. The second said derogatory statements and called me a bitch. The third tried to shove food in my mouth and when I refused to let a stranger shove food in my face, he took the food and threw it in my face while telling me to suck his dick.
I was devastated after that weekend.
I feel uncomfortable dressing up and going out at colleges and universities. I am suffering greatly from this constant abuse . People know me to be a very strong person and it is hard to stand up for myself time after time with no support.

I hope you feel supported by sites such as this one, Alpha. There is also a blogroll on here of other female empowerment/support sites which you could check out too. You are not alone. Women the world over suffer this kind of harassment. Perhaps you could start a support/awareness group at your college? Stay strong 🙂

Alpha, although virtual, know that you have supporters who hope you can find a way to deal with the harassment and resulting stress, so that you can be who you want to be!

It happens to me to a lesser degree and it SUCKS. It’s hard to deal with and emotionally harmful, but a lot of men and even some women don’t understand!
My only suggestions would be to read the “Assertive Responses” under “Get Advice” on this site and practice and use them! Also, ask your friends if they experience similar things and try to get a small group of women together to form a support group or campus club. That way, you will feel supported and you can do something about this for the other girls! If guys you don’t know GRAB YOUR ASS in the area you live in, I’m sure PLENTY of other women get street harassment as well!
