“How creepy it was that an 80 year old man had stopped a child”

October 14, 2016 By Contributor

I was 12. I was walking to church on my own since I lived only two blocks away. I was wearing my best church dress, a very modest but beautiful black dress, and I was excited to see all of my friends at church. When I was about to walk through the parking lot, an older man grabbed my arm and told me that I was beautiful and that he wished there were girls as beautiful as me back in his day. At the time I said thank you politely and walked away, but it took me a while to realize how creepy it was that an 80 year old man had stopped a child to say that he wished I could have lived in his time. I also realized that I could have been in danger if I had responded negatively because of the tight grip he held on my arm.

I am 17 now, and I have been cat called more in my life between the ages of 10-14 than I do now, which is terrifying.

Optional: Do you have any suggestions for dealing with harassers and/or ending street harassment in general?

Be assertive, look for people around you and call to them for help if needed.

Flight Attendant Stops Groper

June 21, 2016 By HKearl

Many thanks to this flight attendant for stepping in to protect this 13-year-old girl from this disgusting, predatory man!

Via CNN.com:

“A flight attendant distributing snacks saw Camp’s hand near the girl’s crotch, according to the complaint.

She described seeing a tear coming down the girl’s cheek and ordered Camp to change seats.

She moved the girl up a number of rows, ordered Camp farther back on the aircraft and notified the captain, the complaint said. The captain told Port of Portland Police, and the suspect was arrested by police and FBI agents when the plane landed in Portland.”

3-Year-Old Girl in Critical Condition

May 17, 2016 By HKearl

Trigger Warning – Violence escalation

Via Jezebel:

“On Sunday night, a Memphis man opened fire on a woman and her three year-old daughter after she refused his advances. The girl was hit multiple times, and is now in the hospital in “extremely critical condition.”

The gunman, who is still on the run, had had a confrontation with the girl’s mother. Local Memphis reports that, after the woman rejected him, he flew into a rage and fired into the car.”

Sending many positive thoughts out to the mother and daughter with every hope that the three-year-old recovers.

#Streetharassment is a serious issue. Male entitlement is deadly. We must address and end this!
